Built for private servers

Uplink started as a personal itch: I wanted my own Icarus dedicated server to recover quietly, back itself up, and let me get back to playing.

It is built around the parts server owners actually feel — starting the server, recovering after a crash, keeping backups, watching the log, and saying something when a problem needs attention.

Uplink is written in Go, with the browser dashboard included in the binary. Windows is the supported target; Linux builds exist because Go compiles for Linux, but they are unofficial and use-at-your-own-risk.

The goal is simple: keep the server easier to run, easier to recover, and less distracting from actually playing.

Built around local control

Runs on your machine. No hosted Uplink account is required — your server config, logs, metrics and backups stay with your server.

Readable by default. Uplink keeps a human-readable config.json, so you can inspect and edit the core settings with any text editor.

Extras stay optional. Steam updates, alerts and service mode are there when you want them, not forced into the first run.

Designed for recovery. Crash recovery, scheduled backups, metrics history and log retention are all built around keeping a play session stable.

Free for personal servers

Uplink is proprietary freeware: free for personal, non-commercial use on private Icarus dedicated servers. The original, unmodified installer may be redistributed, but the source stays private and commercial use is not allowed. The full terms are in the EULA.
